Why this one matters
The Rice County Planning & Zoning Commission has set a public hearing on wind generation for Wednesday, August 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Celebration Centre in Lyons.
We have been here before. In April a public NextEra Energy meeting was called and then canceled at the last minute. We were told the Rice County project had been abandoned. Neither of those things turned out to be the whole story.
This is a public hearing, which means the board hears from residents on the record. A full room and a line of neighbors waiting to speak is the clearest signal we can send. An empty room says the pressure is off.
More than 690 Rice County residents have signed the petition.
